Great Ocean Road
The Great Ocean Road is more than a road - it’s a whole region, stretching from Geelong near Melbourne, westwards to the Victorian-South Australian border.
Declared one of the world’s Top 20 Journeys of a Lifetime by Conde Nast UK, we believe it is THE journey of a lifetime when it comes to drive holidays.
The most spectacular section of the road runs between Torquay and Warrnambool, with a delightful loop inland to complete the circle, making Torquay the ideal base for exploring this section of the region.
Starting at Torquay, the Surf Coast, including world famous Bells Beach, takes you to Lorne and Apollo Bay. From here you can explore the temperate rainforest and waterfalls of the Otway Ranges, before experiencing the iconic Twelve Apostles on the way to Port Campbell. We recommend pushing on to the historic fishing village of Port Fairy if you have time before looping back inland via Colac to Torquay.
You can manage this trip in a day and base yourself in any of our reviewed Torquay accommodation, or book accommodation en route for a slower-paced trip. Have a read of our latest itinerary to get a more detailed feel for the journey.
An excellent history and general information is in Wikipedia.
